Job Shadowing by Farragut Students

by Colleen Slavik

April 30, 2008

Six of our students participated in job shadows during the month of April with the Geek Squad located in the Best Buy Store in Council Bluffs, IA.  Jasmine S. and Jake W.  reported to work on April 17.  They spent the day with the guys from the Geek Squad.  They learned how to configure a router.

Our next set of  to job shadow at the Geek Squad was Jeriah F. and Zach W.  Best Buy had a very busy day and so these two students reported sales people at Best Buy and the Geek Squad were very busy handling customer sales and complaints and they did not get to do as much hands on as the other two students.

JerryLee I. and Colby B. were the  last two students on the final day of job shadowing at the Geek Squad.  Things were a bit slower at the Geek Squad and these students were able to configure several routers and they definitely had lot of experience at the Geek Squad.

Jed J., Russell H. and Jacob B. made up the  fourth team of students to job shadow.  Their job shadow was with CyaNetSports out of Glenwood, IA. The gentlemen from CyaNetSports met our students at Iowa Western Community College.  This team of students made a pod cast and if you would like to see the pod cast you may click on this link.  s://75.125.198.226/GWSarchive/StreetBalln340.wmv  The job shadow was making this pod cast not the playing ball.  The students felt they learned a lot and are anxious to try more job shadows.

The final job shadow was also held at Iowa Western Community College.  Darwin Brown represented the company Google.  Shae E. and Clint G. were the two students who attended this job shadow.  They learned a great deal about Google and all the Google "extras".  Our two students and three students from Fremont-Mills made up a mock company and used all the Google extras and this was all video taped.  All the students seemed to have learned a great deal as well as having a really good time.

Farragut Schools and its students would like to thank Darwin Brown and the College Career Academies for all the hard work put into these job shadows.
