Juniors and parents of juniors for the year of 08-09, if you wish to take or have your child take the PSAT next October; please let Mrs. Hilding or Mrs. Slavik know immediately. The PSAT measures critical thinking skills that are important for success in college, including critical reading, math problem-solving and writing skills.
The PSAT is the qualifying test students must take to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation competitions for college scholarships that will be awarded in 2010. Students who meet published participation requirements, which include taking the PSAT in the specified year of their high school program (usually the junior year), will enter NMSC competitions for recognition and awards. Information about the NMSC programs, entry requirements, and scholarships to be offered in 2010 can be found at www.nationalmerit.org and in the 2008 PSAT/NMSQT Official Student Guide that will be sent to schools this fall.
The PSAT is also required for several more local scholarships. The test date is Wednesday, October 15, however the school needs to order the test material before the end of school. Please let the school know if your student intends on taking the PSAT this fall.
