By: Joyce Supernaw

November 29, 2009

Improvements: June 2010 (pdf)

The Farragut Cemetery Board is so excited to be making improvements thanks to seed money which came from the city, a community betterment donation, and private donations.  We have joined with the Greater Shenandoah Foundation to accept donations that are 501 © 3 deductible.

The following improvements have been made:

.

Columnar Norway Spruce have been planted at the back/east end.

Erected brick columns with decorative iron fence sections at front entrances and corners.

Future projects:

  •   A Farragut Cemetery Sign at front
  •   Plant columnar trees in the interior
  •   Build a Plot Register Center
  •   Repair the historical cannon (see below)

Fix me, I’m crumbling!

This historical cannon has been the center of Memorial Day services at the Farragut Cemetery for decades.  Harold Dinsmore has been working for years on an idea to beautify this area with flags of the branches of the military, a granite base for the cannon, and shrubs.  With this fund drive, we hope his efforts will soon come to fruition.

All donations will be available for intended cemetery use.  Anyone who wishes to contribute to this project can do so by sending a check payable to Greater Shenandoah Foundation; in the memo note Farragut Cemetery.  It can be designated to any of the above future projects.

07/28/2010 I, too, am grateful for all the work the cemetery board and others have done to improve the Farragut cemetery. I have several generations of family members buried in Farragut. The improvements were needed and look great. The long term goals will greatly improve the cemetery.
