Nishnabotna Chapter of TeamMates

It’s Official; we have been approved to provide mentoring to the youth of Farragut and Hamburg through Dr. Tom and Nancy Osborne’s TeamMates Mentoring Program!  I’d like to share parts of the letter received from Suzanne Hince, Executive Director of TeamMates:

“0n behalf of Dr. Tom and Nancy Osborne, I want to thank you for participating in the TeamMates Mentoring Program by submitting a proposal.  This is a very exciting time for communities as they work collaboratively to offer support and guidance for today’s youth. I am pleased to announce that your proposal has met the criteria and is recommended as one of the communities to launch the TeamMates Mentoring  Program.  Congratulations to the individuals and the entire community for their dedication and hard work in preparing the proposal…congratulations to the communities of Hamburg and Farragut.”

The mission of the TeamMates Mentoring Program is to impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential. Youth in the TeamMates Mentoring Program have expressed a desire to have an additional caring adult in their life.  The parents are the primary support and a mentor’s role is to provide additional support and encouragement.  TeamMates is a school-based program. This means the mentoring takes place in the school building during school hours.

The Nishnabotna Chapter Board of Directors are: Angie Lutt, President; Pat Gilson, Vice President; Hallie Ferguson, Secretary; Angela Halsten, Treasurer; and other board members, Bruce Keim, Mary Lehman, Rhesa Lieding, Andrea Rexroth, Denise Stevens, and Greg Warden.  Coordinators are Deana Swenson, Farragut and Alice Hodde, Hamburg.

We are currently recruiting mentors to begin mentoring this fall.  Prospective mentors can contact any of the board members, coordinators, or school offices to obtain the mentor application.  Information may also be obtained at www.teammates.org

Several board members will be attending training July 26th in Lincoln.  Mentor training for our volunteers has been scheduled for Thursday August 12, 6:30 p.m. at the Hamburg High School Library.

There are many young people who want a mentor and do not have one.  Please consider joining us to make the critical difference in the success of a young person!
