Resources to Help Parents Understand How to
Help Their Young Children
Among the many Web sites that offer helpful insights into the role
parents can play in supporting early learning, here are
three. District staff may find these helpful resources in
communicating with parents or community agencies.
Born to Learn www.bornlearning.org -- This Web site, developed by the United Way and other partners, provides information about how children learn, the role of the parent, and the impact of nutrition on learning. Among the myriad of information provided is some that explains what children should be doing at each developmental stage, birth through age 5.
Child Care Aware http://childcareaware.org-- Child Care Aware is a program of the National Association of Child Resource and Referral funded through the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Child Resource and Referral is a federal program that helps parents seeking childcare find quality care givers. Child Care Aware share information in downloadable brochures about child care issues, the transition between child care and kindergarten and other topics. Publications are available for download in English and Spanish at http://childcareaware.org/en/tools/pubs/
Zero to Three www.zerotothree.org-- Zero to Three is a national nonprofit devoted to the healthy development of babies and toddlers. The Web site provide several resources for both parents and professionals. Among them, a brochure for parents entitled, "Getting Your Child Ready for School Begins at Birth," available for download at: http://www.zerotothree.org/ztt_parents.html
